This is a partial documentation of my two week process of building three filtered computer and projection boxes for “Burning Man” 2006. The first box houses a Apple G4 867mhz/2GB Ram/ 128MB VidCard / OWC 500GB FireWire Hard Drive, filled with DrFX Digital Video. The second unit is a Filtered Projections Box housing an Epson 2000 Lumens Projector. The third one is “The BurningBox” which is an Apple Powerbook G4 1.67ghz / 2GB Ram/ 128MB VRam/OWC 500GB FW HD, filled with DrFX Digital Video & Effects. All mixed with an Edirol V4 Mixer. The primary software used for serving video is Vidvox Grid Pro. The “BurningBox” also contains a DVD Hard Drive and Wireless Midi Receiver that triggers the Grid Software and the Edirol Mixer from an M-Audio wireless keyboard.
*Last year DrFX created a first time in the world innovation of using wireless midi to control hardware and software video triggering and mixing. Wireless midi is normally used for music instruments only. A wireless sending unit and keybord are programmed to control the video and free the good Dr. from the BurningBox.
